It’s one of the reasons I do not think we should be teaching children “You must tolerate all religions”, and use that as their guiding principle in life. That, in and of itself, is an extreme position. The only way to make sense of it is to soften it.
“You must be civil to people who are being civil to you” is something different. Civil and tolerant are not synonyms.
That we made tolerance a virtue in and of itself isa leftist position. The left did not subvert it. They were the people who helped codify it, and then took it to its logical conclusion.
From my perspective this seems pretty self-evident. We should not be teaching anybody that tolerance is a virtue. It is a useful tool, period. It should be applied in some situations and not others.
