Video Game Developers are Sexiss [Now UPDATED]

I downloaded a free game off of Steam called Depression Quest.* The only point of it is to give non-depressed people an idea of what depression is like, and I got it because I have depressed or formerly depressed friends and I wanted to see where they were coming from. To that end, I have it on good authority that the game is fairly effective.

But here’s the interesting part. The creator, Zoe Quinn, claimed she was sexually harassed when making the game. What I gather is that people said mean things about her on an online forum. She claims people called her and started making rape threats and masturbated into the phone, but honestly her claims are so ludicrously over the top that I’m not surprised she has no evidence but her word.

But this story gets better. Zoe Quinn, who claims that the games industry is biased against females, has apparently been sleeping around in order to get positive press for her game, and has a nasty little habit of exploiting the victim card.

I await with interest to hear just how, exactly, the fact that a female has been sleeping with prominent industry figures is somehow actually all the mens’ fault for creating such a sexiss industry in the first place.

*By the way, I never would have gotten the game if I’d known anything about this, in case you were wondering, but as it is the game is free. There’s really no way for me to give it back.

UPDATE: Holy shit, this psycho is as bad as you can get. I mean, I feel bad for the boyfriend, and maybe it’s my natural cynicism, but I honestly cannot believe he trusted this woman for as long as he did, or continued talking with her for as long as he did AFTER ostensibly breaking up. Or that he tried to get back together with her again after learning about the SEVERAL affairs! Nothing she told him could possibly justify that short of “I was being mind controlled, and here is my proof”.

On the other hand, I come from the perspective that there was absolutely nothing to like about her in the first place anyway, so hey, maybe to an ultra-liberal like him she was just totally irresistible. Who knows?

It is worth nothing that ex-boyfriend says that the one video game developer she apparently slept with (unless I didn’t recognize the other names, which is possible), who then WENT ON TO BE HER BOSS, wouldn’t have hired her just because he slept with her. On the other hand he seems utterly clueless about relationships anyway, so whatever, it was still incredibly slimy and hypocritical. You don’t get to yell about sexism and sleep with your boss at the same time.

The more publicity this scandal gets, the better, as far as I’m concerned. She’s an utterly despicable human being, and in a civilized world people like her would be shamed and ostracized. Let’s start with shaming for now.

  1. The Deuce says:

So, time to switch from whining about “sexual objectification” and “rape culture” to whining about “slut shaming” then?

    • I don’t think that’ll quite work, since the problem isn’t the sex but the fact that she used sex for leverage. I think instead what we’ll start seeing is “Why does nobody talk about the men she slept with the way people talk about her?” and “The very fact that the men were willing to exchange sex for favors shows just how sexiss the gaming industry really is”.

We’ll see. One thing we’ll all agree upon, though, is that whatever happens it’ll be men’s fault.

Just read the boyfriend’s blog, and wow. I’ve always thought Vox Day’s expansion of the alpha/beta concept into a whole hierarchy was overcomplicated, with one exception: his concept of the “gamma male” captures a certain sad-sack personality type amazingly well. It’s painful and embarrassing to watch for anyone else with a Y-chromosome.

  3. You see the I.Aristocrat’s vid on it?

Oh he came out and said that in “Act 0”.

She seemed pretty cool; I didn’t talk much at first, and mostly listened as she related tales of adversities she’d overcome and how they’d shaped her as a person and fueled her determination to improve the world. I was enamored, but after a while she caught herself ranting and asked about my interests and from there we discussed all sorts of stuff from art to programming to neurology to artificial intelligence to philosophy to how the “is it a game?” argument has literally been going on for a quarter century before video games even existed. At which point she showed me a copy of Wittgenstein’s Tractatus Logico Philosophicus she carried around in her bag. Swoon — good birthday.

      There are no words.

    • GoldRush Apple says:

      Hoo boy. “Enamored.”

Overcame adversities to become a stronger person and which shaped her worldview.

Is this a joke? Please, someone tell me this is some sort of parody.

My question is: Does she understand Wittgenstein’s text?

Wouldn’t apologists/defenders say that Zoe is held to a double standard, and if a guy did it they would’ve been cheered on or it would’ve been treated “not a big deal”?

    • And my reaction to that would be:

      1) Who cares? She still did it, it’s still wrong. Typical liberal logic (I know you’re just being devil’s advocate, but it’s a good illustration regardless): When punishment is disproportionate, eliminate the punishment. The fact that there’s a double standard has nothing to do with her.

      2) Fucking bullshit it would have been treated that way by the SJW’s.

      3) The key here is that this woman was supposedly an anti-sexism activist. Who slept with game developers and then got jobs from the people she slept with as well as good press.

That’s not only completely untrue, it’s also not the same situation.

If they did, they would be demonstrably wrong.
