I’m in the mood. Here’s the top five for me:
1 (tied)) “The Dark Knight”. One of the only movies to successfully pull of multiple villains, and Heath Ledger’s performance is the greatest by a villain since Hannibal Lecter. One of only two superhero movies to win a major Oscar as far as I know.
1 (tied) “The Incredibles”, the other movie to win a major Oscar. I just can’t rank this lower. I can’t. Probably the better overall movie, but Heath Ledger puts “The Dark Knight” over the top. I love the philosophy of “The Incredibles”. It is perhaps the most conservative movie of the last twenty years. Plus it pulls off the neat trick of making CGI fights look awesome.
2) “Spider-Man 2”. The dialogue is so, so corny, but it’s awesome.
3) “Iron Man”. Robert Downey Jr. all the way, man.
4) “The Avengers”. Whedon knows how to pull off an ensemble cast successfully.
5) “Spider-Man 1”. Not as good as the sequel, but the first two “Spider-Man” movies are classics of the genre.
