A brief bit on Joss Whedon’s “Firefly”

Right now I’m watching this during my one week free trial of Hulu Plus, and let me tell you, the only show I’ve EVER enjoyed this much is “Sherlock”. “Firefly” is a masterpiece. I’ve never been a huge Sci-fi guy. Star Wars isn’t bad and I definitely liked the new Star Trek movies a lot, but in terms of television/movies that’s about the extent of it. As for books, “Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” and “A Wrinkle in Time” are both great. But sci-fi is very far from my first choice of genre.

And yet, here I am, about to watch episode 9 of “Firefly”, “Ariel”. What a show. One day, when I finish the sequel movie “Serenity”, I’ll give a real in-depth post on it here, because there’s a lot to say and a lot to learn from “Firefly”, a masterpiece in characterization and story-telling. I imagine that that’s going to be one of my favorite posts to write.
